Fire crews gather for joint training

Crews from the Davis and UC Davis fire departments work together to reload hose on City Engine 31 following a multi-company drill Monday at Cranbrook Apartments in East Davis. The three-day training exercise will involve all three shifts and all fire companies from both agencies practicing responding to fires at multi-family residences. The drills provide an opportunity for the shared management team to get to know personnel better, hone emergency scene operations to act more as a single response force and help everyone adjust tactics to the demands of three-person companies, fire officials said. Drills in January took place at the new Castilian apartment complex while it was under construction and focused on spotting apparatus in tight roadways and parking lots, fire operations in stairwells and fire ground tactics for multi-story buildings.
