Five generations celebrate Dahl’s 102nd birthday
Jeanne Dahl, who turned 102 on Thursday, was welcomed to the 8th Assembly District Century Circle by Assemblywoman Mariko Yamada, D-Davis. Five generations of Dahl’s family attended her birthday celebration at Atria Covell Gardens, where she lives.
“Mrs. Dahl joins her fellow senior sisters in making up the largest segment of California’s over-85 population,” Yamada said. “That’s why I believe we must continue to support programs that serve the needs of future centenarians like Mrs. Dahl.”
The former Jeanne Louise McGinnis was born in Sweetbriar, N.D., on Jan. 12, 1910, one of seven children born to Joe McGinnis and Mary Clouston. Jeanne was an attractive, smart and quick young woman and a skilled tennis player. She had many suitors but none matched up to Melvin Dahl, who grew up on a nearby farm.
They fell in love and were married on April 14, 1935. Jeanne and Melvin Dahl’s love match lasted more than 76 years until his death last year at the age of 97.
Yamada launched her Century Circle in May 2010, recognizing centenarians in Yolo and Solano counties. The goal is to bring greater attention to the growing number of people 100 years of age and older, their families and those who care for them. Since that time, Yamada has recognized more than 40 centenarians in the district.
If you or a loved one would like to participate in the Century Circle, contact Yamada’s district office at (707) 455-8025 or assemblymember.yamada@assembly.ca.gov and provide the name, contact and birthday month for the centenarian celebrant.
