Steve Boschken, left, and Kevin Whiteford, members of the Sunset Rotary Club of Davis, do the cooking at Sunday’s barbecue to benefit Yolo Military Families. The event was hosted at The Davis Graduate, with proceeds helping to pay shipping costs for 125 Hugs From Home packages to be sent to deployed service members. Volunteers from the military families group and the Army ROTC unit at UC Davis assembled and mailed 63 packages Saturday, with more to follow in the coming weeks. Packages include¬†travel-size toiletries, games, books, magazines, food and snack items. Also included were some of the 500 cards were made by schoolchildren, church members and supporters in Davis and Woodland. Courtesy photo
