Former Davis High Principal Howard Cohen dies

By From page A4 | July 05, 2013

Howard Cohen, who held a succession of administrative posts in the Davis school district from 1988 through 1999, died recently.

Cohen came to the Davis district as a vice principal at Davis High in 1988, and served in that position through summer 1991, at which point he became the principal at Emerson Junior High. Cohen stayed at Emerson for two years, then returned to Davis High as principal in 1993.

He left Davis High — and the Davis school district — in January 1999, taking a job as director of curriculum and instruction with the Contra Costa County Office of Education.

Cohen died on June 26, and services have already been held. A longtime Contra Costa County resident, Cohen served for more than 25 years as cantor at Temple Beth Hillel in Richmond. Cohen leaves a wife, a son and daughter-in-law, and a grandchild.
