The Davis school board hired four principals and a vice principal during Thursday evening’s meeting. Most of the new hires are promotions from within the school district, and all have long-standing connections to the Davis community.

The new principal at Emerson Junior High will be Stacy Desideri, who has been a vice principal at Davis High School since 2009. Desideri also saw duty as a part-time vice principal at Emerson Junior High during the 2012-13 school year.

In addition, she was a library media teacher at Davis High from 2006 through 2009, and a fifth-grade teacher at Willett Elementary from 2000 to 2006.

Before joining the Davis school district in 2000, Desideri taught humanities and math-science core at Douglass Junior High in Woodland from 1997 to 2000, and taught from 1992 to 1997 at Samuel Jackman Middle School in Sacramento.

Desideri earned a bachelor’s degree in English and a teaching credential through Sacramento State, and she also has an administrative services credential and a library media specialist credential through that university.

Kerin Kelleher will be the new principal at Harper Junior High. Kelleher served as vice principal at Harper during the current academic year, and as vice principal at Holmes Junior High from 2007 through 2013. She also taught English at Holmes Junior High from 1992 to 2006.

Before joining the Davis school district in 1992, Kelleher taught English and social studies at Horace Mann Middle School in San Diego, and taught from 1980 to 1986 at Fulton Elementary Academic and Athletic Magnet School in San Diego.

Kelleher earned a bachelor’s degree in liberal studies, a teaching credential and a master’s in education at San Diego State University. She received her administrative credential through Point Loma Nazarene College in San Diego.

Jim Knight will be the new principal at Birch Lane Elementary. Currently a math specialist at Montgomery Elementary, Knight has five years’ experience as an assistant principal at elementary and middle schools in the Fairfield-Suisun school district, as well as experience as a summer school principal in the Natomas Unified School District.

He also has been a classroom teacher at schools in the Natomas Unified district in Sacramento and in the Washington Unified district in West Sacramento.

Knight earned a bachelor’s degree in social science, a teaching credential, a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction and an administrative credential through Chapman University.

A Davis resident for 27 years, Knight has two children who studied at the Davis public schools from the Davis Parent Nursery School through high school. He also has been active as a coach in community sports at multiple levels.

Antonia Slagle will be the new principal at King High School. She is currently a learning community director — a position that has some duties that correspond with those traditionally held by a vice principal — at Pioneer High School in Woodland, a position she has held since 2012. She also was a summer school site coordinator in Woodland in 2013.

Prior to joining the Woodland school district, Slagle was a teacher and adviser at The Met Sacramento High School from 2009 through 2012. She also taught in Sacramento’s Hiram Johnson West Campus program during 2008-09, taught English at Sacramento’s Luther Burbank High School from 2003 to 2005, and taught at Sacramento High School from 2000 to 2003.

Slagle earned a bachelor’s degree in comparative literature at UC Davis, a teaching credential through Chapman University and a master’s in educational leadership through Sacramento State.

Amelia Diaz Hess will be a new vice principal at Davis High School. Hess has been a Spanish teacher in the Davis school district since 1997, and currently teaches at Davis High. She also has served as a substitute vice principal and teacher on special assignment at DHS.

She also has taught Spanish at Diamond Ranch High School in Los Angeles County.

Hess earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology and Spanish at UC Davis, a teaching credential at Sacramento State and a master’s in education through Concordia University.
