Free composting classes offered in April

By From page A4 | April 01, 2014

Local residents who are interested in learning how to compost food scraps have two opportunities to do so this month. The city of Davis is offering free composting classes at 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 2, and Monday, April 14, in the Game Room at the Veterans’ Memorial Center, 203 E. 14th St.

In addition to backyard composting and worm composting, these classes will place a particular emphasis on simple, pest-free methods of composting food scraps. After attending a class, Davis residents may sign up to receive a starter set of composting worms for $5 and residents of single-family homes can receive a backyard compost bin for $10.

In addition, five free food scrap collection pails will be given away at each class. Pails will be distributed at the end of the class to winners chosen at random from the class attendees.

To register, RSVP on Facebook (Facebook.com/DavisRecycling.org/events), call the Public Works Department at 530-757-5686 or send an email to¬†[email protected].
