Free food safety workshop offered for growers

By From page A4 | March 27, 2013

To help small, local farms meet new food safety standards, Capay Organic and its Community Supported Agriculture program, Farm Fresh To You, will offer a free workshop for growers and suppliers on Thursday, April 4. The workshop will run from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Capay Organic Farm, 23800 State Highway 16 in Capay.

“Farm Fresh To You and Capay Organic have worked hard to establish workable food safety practices, and we want to share this information with other growers,” said Thaddeus Barsotti, chief farmer for the company. “We look forward to collaborating and sharing best practices with other farms to continue to provide for a safe food supply in our community. It is important that our small community of growers work together as these new safety standards evolve.”

The workshop will go over compliance with the Food Safety Modernization Act and templates for a food safety program and good agricultural practices. Environmental testing and food sanitization also will be reviewed.

This is a free workshop, and lunch will be provided. Space is limited; RSVP to Tara Stout at [email protected].
