FIT House is offering a free community yoga class in Central Park at 11:15 a.m. Saturday after the Davis Turkey Trot’s 5K, 10K and half-marathon races. All community members are welcome.
The class will consist of a 15-minute sequence of yoga poses designed to release tension and lactic acid from overworked areas of the body.
In the past few years, yoga has become popular among runners, says Wendi McCaskill, director of FIT House’s yoga classes, who will be the instructor Saturday. Its restorative qualities have been proven to prevent running injuries and reduce recovery time after long runs, she says.
“We are excited to partner with A Change of Pace to bring runners a relaxing stretch after the Turkey Trot,” McCaskill says. “We look forward to showing all members of the Davis community how exhilarating and restorative yoga can be.”
Runners are invited to bring a mat or towel and check them in at FIT House’s booth in the Turkey Trot pavilion while they run the race.
FIT House, 630 Peña Drive, is a specialty fitness studio in Davis, owned by Jennifer Miramontes and Lisa Herrington, who have more than three decades of experience in the industry.
