Dignitaries applaud Tuesday the unveiling of a sign designating a stretch of Interstate 80 between Richards Boulevard and the Yolo Causeway in Davis in memory of fallen California Highway Patrol Officer William “Ivan” Casselman, who died on Aug. 23, 1935, when his patrol motorcycle struck the rear of a truck. Tuesday’s ceremony took place at the Yolo Bypass Wildlife Area Headquarters and was attended by, from left, CHP Deputy Commissioner Ramona Prieto; Will Arnold, district staff member for Sen. Lois Wolk; Assemblywoman Mariko Yamada; CHP Commissioner Joe Farrow and CHP Capt. Andrew Menard. Casselman was one of the first members of the CHP, which was established in 1929.
