Services were scheduled Wednesday for a former Davis teen who was killed in a car accident early Saturday morning in Sacramento.

Moises Pigg, 18, attended César Chávez Elementary School and Emerson Junior High School in Davis before moving to Michigan with his mother, according to friends. He graduated from Albion High School in Albion, Mich., and was a student at the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor at the time of his death.

Pigg’s father reportedly lives in the Sacramento area, where the teen would visit family and friends during his breaks from school.

California Highway Patrol officials said Pigg was at the wheel of a 2005 Toyota Avalon that struck a tree on Hedge Avenue near Florin Road in southeast Sacramento at about 2:30 a.m. Saturday.

Pigg died after being ejected from the vehicle, according to the CHP. The cause of the accident remains under investigation.

Although he hadn’t lived in Davis for several years, he kept in touch with his wide range of friends here.

They included former classmate Kody Moynihan, whose mother Cathy Sacks remembered Pigg as a well-mannered youth who was loyal to his friends and always seemed to be smiling.

“He had a really sweet spirit, wonderful to be around,” Sacks said Tuesday. “He had a lot of friends — he’s just very well loved by everyone.”

Pigg enjoyed playing soccer, listening to music and spending time with his friends.

After his death, Pigg’s friends created an “R.I.P. Moises Pigg” page on Facebook, which as of Tuesday evening featured almost two dozen wall posts and garnered nearly 300 “likes.”

“He was a nice, respectful guy to me and fellow friends, all around easy to get along with and never came across as a mean cat,” one person wrote. “He was funny and very laid back.”

“You brought laughter to all that knew you!” added a staffer at Albion High School. “You will be missed by many. May God see your family through this sadness.”

Funeral services for Pigg were scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. Wednesday at East Lawn Elk Grove Memorial Park, 9189 E. Stockton Blvd. in Elk Grove. A reception will follow.
