Fund drive aims to help Chilean fire victims

By From page A3 | April 22, 2014

Local residents can help victims of a devastating fire half a world away, thanks to the efforts of the Chilean Student Association at UC Davis and the Chilean Cultural Association of Davis.

The April 12 fire razed an entire neighborhood in Valparaiso, the main port in Chile, taking the lives of at least 15 people, destroying more than 2,000 homes and forcing the evacuation of 10,000-plus residents. Among those affected are the sister and niece of Jorge Loyola of Davis, who lost their home and all of its contents.

Donations may be made directly to http://www.gofundme.com/8dlekk or by sending a check made payable to ChileCAD to 2707 Henri Court, Davis, CA 95618. The funds will be forwarded to the neighborhood association (Junta de Vecinos Pajonal) in Cerro Merced, Valparaiso.
