The Mid-Winter Beekeeper’s Feast: A Taste of Mead and Honey will run from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, at the Robert Mondavi Institute will celebrate the bounty of beekeeping with a seasonal dinner made from local ingredients. Individual tickets are $125. Sponsorships for tables of eight are $1,250.

The fundraiser for the Honey and Pollination Center at the Robert Mondavi Institute at UC Davis signals the coming of spring. The dinner was designed by Ann Evans using “The Davis Farmers Market Cookbook.” Each of the five courses was selected for its seasonal availability and is enhanced with varietal honeys, wines and mead. Dinner will be catered by The Buckhorn.

A silent auction will feature an in-home Tuscan meal designed by Jonathon Moon, an in-home wine tasting designed by professor Andrew Waterhouse, a varietal honey tasting led by Amina Harris, director of the Honey and Pollination Center, as well as assorted wine and food gift baskets.

Each year, bees and other pollinators help bring more than 30 percent of food to area tables. The Honey and Pollination Center’s mission is “to showcase the importance of honey and pollination to the well-being of consumers through education and research. The center works with all aspects of the beekeeping industry, including agriculture, grocers and chefs, beekeepers and future beekeepers, urban homesteaders and students.”

In its first year, the center created Northern California Wildflower Honey and pollinator note cards featured at the UCD Stores and online. Proceeds from the sale of these items support the work of the center and help fund graduate research at the Harry H. Laidlaw Bee Biology Facility on campus.
