Neighbors of Davis resident Annette De Bow, diagnosed in 2008 with a rare blood cancer, are hosting a giant garage sale Saturday to raise money for research to seek a cure for the disease.
“This is one of the most gratifying events I have experienced in the three years since I began Trek for a Cure,” De Bow said. “My dear friends and neighbors have instigated this garage sale in an effort to support this cause. I feel invigorated knowing that together with many supporters we can contribute to finding a cure for my disease.
“This is neighbor helping neighbor; Davis is such a great place to live and raise a family.”
Local residents are invited to sponsor De Bow’s trek and donate online at www.trekforacure.com. All tax-deductible donations she raises this summer on her trek will go to the MPN Research Foundation (www.mpnfoundation.org).
More than 20 people will be joining De Bow for one or more of the six segments of the trek. Old friends and new have signed up to hike, from as far away as Manitoba, Canada. The trekkers will average about eight miles a day; much of the hike will be at or above 10,000 feet.
De Bow will take a little more than three weeks to hike the entire route, starting on July 14 and arriving in Tuolumne Meadows on Aug. 6.
