The Stephens Branch Library, 315 E. 14th St. in Davis, will present a series of genealogy-related programs during October. All programs are free and sponsored by the Yolo County Library, Yolo County Archives and the Davis Genealogy Club.
* Oct. 12, 7 to 8 p.m., Caring for Your Family Treasures: Learn how to properly store precious family documents and photographs. Yolo County Archivist Moira Conlan will share basics of preservation, plus preferred storage and conservation methods for different types of memorabilia.
A question-and-answer session will follow and Archives staff will be happy to discuss specific items brought to the seminar as time permits.
* Oct. 16, 2 to 3 p.m., Techniques for Researching Your Family History: Local researcher and family historian Jeannette L. Molson will speak about her grassroot-level research methods. Based on her own experience, Molson will touch on Civil War and Underground Railroad research, as well as immigration, census, emigration and connecting with other family members.
* Oct. 19, 7 to 8 p.m., Who Do You Think You Are? And How Do You Find Out? Have you ever seen the popular network show “Who Do You Think You Are?” What about the PBS series “American Lives”? Millions of viewers tune in to watch the personal journey of celebrities and other guests as they trace their family trees and learn about their roots.
Learn how you can begin your own family research at home, on the Internet and in repositories throughout the United States. This session is designed for beginning researchers and those wanting to start their family research.
* Oct. 26, 7 to 8 p.m., Yolo County History & Founding Families: Have you ever wondered why we live in Yolo County? Or who were the first families to live in Davisville? Find out everything you’ve always wanted to know about this place we call home. Yolo County historian Shipley Walters will share her wealth of knowledge about our county and its early denizens.
