Historian and author David Wilkinson will sign copies of his new book, “Hollywood Comes to Woodland,” from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the historic Corner Drug Co., 602 Main St. in downtown Woodland.

The event coincides with Woodland’s First Friday Art Walk.

Also on hand will be Bill Hollingshead of Davis, whose father Paul’s photos are featured in the book.

“Hollywood Comes to Woodland” details a history of Woodland’s nickelodeons, movies at the Opera House, storefront theaters, Bill’s Theatre and movie palaces including the Yolo, Porter and State Theatres as well as the Sunset Drive-in Theatre.

The book features 50-plus photos of theater exteriors and interiors from the archives of the late Paul W. Hollingshead, many never seen or exhibited in 75 years.

The book is published by the Yolo County Historical Society, and all proceeds from sales of the volume go to the society.
