Gibran’s poetry is centerpiece of Sunday’s service

By From page A4 | May 10, 2013

The Center for Spiritual Living Davis, 1715 Anderson Road, plans a special Mother’s Day celebration Sunday featuring the poetry of Kahlil Gibran through song and word.

Folk singer Mark Haskett will present a Prophet Service combining his reflections on Gibran’s poetic masterwork with a tribute to motherhood, from noon to 1 p.m. Sunday. All are welcome at 11:30 a.m. for meditation. The service is free and open to the public, although donations will be accepted with gratitude.

Haskett has been a student of religion throughout his life. He was deeply influenced by a grandmother who was a devoted Christian Scientist. He was raised a Methodist and was later accepted into a United Methodist seminary but attended Cal State Long Beach instead. He graduated in 1972 with a degree in philosophy.

While Haskett has earned his “daily bread” in the field of design and copywriting since moving to Modesto, he has remained active in the local faith community. He served on the board of directors for Inter-Faith Ministries for more than a decade before founding his own nonprofit organization, InnerFaith Resources, to promote mutual understanding and dialog between the area’s diverse religious communities.
