Grief group for teens begins

By March 14, 2011

The teenage years can be turbulent. Grief following the death of someone close adds to that turbulence. Teens may need unusual ways to express and cope with their grief. The Yolo Hospice Stepping Stones program is specifically designed to help teens using art, technology and discussion.

A Stepping Stones teen grief group will meet every Thursday for eight weeks beginning April 14 from 4:30 to 6 p.m. The group is designed to support and comfort grieving teens, ages 12 to 18. The group is monitored and guided by trained facilitators.

A separate adult grief support group will be available at the same time and place so adult family members bringing teens to their group may have the opportunity to receive support for themselves. This is a drop-in group and requires no pre-registration.

Call Yolo Hospice Bereavement Services at (530) 601-5756 for more information. Pre-registration is required for the teen group and group size is limited. Participation in the either group is free, but donations are welcomed.
