Group discusses Campus/Community Book Project selection

By From page A16 | September 15, 2013

A book and film discussion group for “Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide,” the UC Davis Campus/Community Book Project selection, is being organized at the Unitarian University Church in Davis.

Written by Pulitzer Prize winners and authors Nicholas D. Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn, the book undertakes an odyssey through Africa and Asia to meet extraordinary women struggling against pervasive human rights violations and the oppression of women and girls in the developing world.

Discussion leaders Susan Steinbach and Leslie Anastassatos will guide participants through readings and film with possibilities of a call to action. Come for one or all sessions: Sept. 16 and 30, Oct. 7 and 21, from 7 to 9 p.m. in the library at the church, 27074 Patwin Road.

The last session will feature guest speakers actively working on girls’ and women’s rights around the world. Register at [email protected].
