Health care forum set at Senior Center

By From page A4 | October 20, 2013

The Davis Senior Center will offer a presentation on the Affordable Care Act at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29, at 646 A St.

Many adults under age 65 are not eligible for Medicare and have trouble finding private health insurance. The Affordable Care Act might help individuals who have been priced out of the health insurance market due to age or pre-existing conditions.

At the Senior Center presentation, Jayne Burkman of the nonprofit Legal Services of Northern California will explain options for uninsured adults under the ACA. In California, the program is known as Covered California. Enrollment began Oct. 1, with insurance coverage taking effect Jan. 1.

Burkman’s presentation will focus on coverage options for working adults or retirees without health insurance. Individuals covered by Medicare already have health insurance.
