Hear from mystery authors on Friday

California mystery authors Cara Black and Denise Hamilton will be at The Avid Reader, 617 Second St. in Davis, at 6 p.m. Friday to discuss their newest titles and mystery writing in general.

Black is the author of the award-winning Paris-based Aimée Leduc mysteries. Her works have been translated from English into five other languages and she has been nominated for the Anthony Award for Best Novel.

Her newest novel, “Murder at the Lanterne Rouge,” published earlier this month, is the 12th book in the series that Alan Furst described as “transcendently, seductively, irresistibly French.”

Hamilton is the author of the bestselling Eve Diamond mysteries and an award-winning journalist. Her latest book, “Damage Control,” which has received rave reviews from sources such as NPR and Publisher’s Weekly, is set in present-day Los Angeles. “Damage Control” is, according to author James Ellroy, “a great mystery, and, much more rarely, a superb psychological thriller.”

Both of the authors will discuss their work, answer questions and sign books at the event.
