The Other Voice poetry series sponsored by the Unitarian Universalist Church of Davis presents Danyen Powell and Shawn Pittard on Friday, Nov. 18. The reading begins at 7:30 p.m. in library of the church, 27074 Patwin Road.
This is a free event; refreshments and open mike will follow the reading.
Powell’s poetry has been included in a variety of publications such as “Brevities,” “The Poets’ Guild,” “Poetry Depth Quarterly” and the “Rattlesnake Review.” He also has been the facilitator of the Sacramento Poetry Center’s weekly Tuesday night poetry workshop for the past 12 years.
He lives in Davis with his wife Betsy. Their son Joel also lives here and works in the family construction business.
Pittard is the author of two chapbook collections of poems, “Standing in the River,” winner of Tebot Bach’s 2010 Clockwise Chapbook Competition, and “These Rivers,” from Rattlesnake Press.
His poems, essays and book reviews have appeared in “Brevities,” “The Chrysalis Reader,” “Confrontation,” “The North American Review,” “Poetry Now,” “Rattlesnake Review,” “Runes,” “Spillway” and “The Web del Sol Review of Books.”
He lives with his wife Kathy in Sacramento. Several times a year, he goes off the grid to his family’s cabin in the forest outside Flagstaff, Ariz.
