Historic Stephens Ranch hosts Taste of Capay

This year’s annual Taste of Capay is right out of the history books.

Capay Valley Vision — a nonprofit whose founders are leaders from both the community and the Yocha Dehe Wintun Nation — is holding its 13th Taste of Capay at the Stephens family’s historic Oakdale Ranch. The Stephenses are one of the original farming families who settled in the valley in the early 1850s.

Located in Esparto, the ranch is the second oldest working ranch in Yolo County that continues to be owned and operated by the original family. The Stephenses have a rich history of local leadership and public service setting examples that continue to guide the valley’s growth and prosperity, a news release said.

The event features a five-course meal prepared by chefs from the Cache Creek Casino Resort from meats, produce and other products from Capay Valley farms and ranches.

Also featured are wine and olive oil tastings as well as exhibits highlighting the Yocha Dehe Wintun Nation, the Stephens family history and historical farming equipment. There also will be music and silent and live auctions.

The event runs from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 20. Tickets are $60 each or $550 for a table of 10. For more information, call 530-867-5603, stop by the Manas Meat and Deli Market at 26797 State Highway 16 in Esparto or email [email protected].
