The Food Bank of Yolo County will distribute 1,500 Thanksgiving meals to local residents in need this holiday season.

Those interested in receiving food should call the Food Bank at 530-668-0648 by Friday, Nov. 9, to sign up. Individuals and families who miss the Thanksgiving deadline will be signed up automatically to receive food at the Christmas distribution in December.

The meals will be distributed Thursday, Nov. 15, in Knights Landing and Saturday, Nov. 17, in Woodland, West Sacramento, Esparto and Winters. Partner organizations are RISE Inc., Broderick Christian Center, Yolo County Housing and the Family Resource Center in Knights Landing.

The Thanksgiving meal program is one of two holiday food distributions organized by the Food Bank. The program was created last year, thanks to a grant from the Yocha Dehe Wintun Nation Community Fund. Last year, approximately 2,000 meals were distributed between Thanksgiving and Christmas, and this year, the Food Bank hopes to reach 3,000 families.

Each family will receive a turkey, an assortment of fresh, seasonal produce, and a variety of non-perishable goods.
