Davis Downtown has several holiday events planned for local youngsters.

Children in costume may walk the Treat Trail from 2 to 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 31. This community tradition, recommended for kids 10 and under, will happen rain or shine.

Adding to the Halloween spirit, the Varsity Theatre will show “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown,” for free at 2, 2:35, 3:10 and 3:45 p.m. The Varsity is at 616 Second St.

While meandering around, keep an eye out for the Pamela Trokanski Dance Group, which will be performing Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” at various locations.

Too old to trick-or-treat? Check out the second annual El Dia de los Muertos celebration from 2 to 5:30 p.m. on the E Street Plaza in the 200 block of E Street. This traditional Mexican holiday honors the dead and the living.

A community altar will be built by Amar Azucena Cid and volunteer artists on the plaza stage. The community is invited to contribute offerings of photos, letters, flowers, food and mementos to the altar, until 5:30 p.m., to celebrate those who have died.

From 2:30 to 3:45 p.m. Voice of the Wood performance artists will read stories: “That Terrible Halloween Night,” “The Little Old Lady Who Wasn’t Afraid of Anything” and “The Ghost of John.”

At 4 p.m. is the El Dia Procession, which begins at Tres Hermanas, Second and H streets, and ends at the plaza. The public is invited to dress in traditional costumes and makeup.
