Yolo Military Families invite local residents to show support for local heroes — all those who serve in the U.S. armed forces — by visiting the group’s informational display and fundraiser Saturday in front of SaveMart supermarket at Covell Boulevard and Anderson Road in Davis. The group will be there from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.; a representative from the California Department of Veterans Affairs will be available to answer questions until 11:30 a.m.
Saturday is Armed Forces Day. Residents are reminded to fly their American flags in honor of the troops.
Yolo Military Families members, assisted by UC Davis Reserve Officers Training Corps cadets and volunteers, recently shipped 67 care packages to deployed service personnel around the world. The packages, which should arrive by Saturday, contain snack foods, soup, ravioli and cans of fruit along with books and games. The most popular item, organizers say, will be cards hand-made by children from the community.
The group recently received a donation of $550 from Debbie Baker, president of Yolo County Cabrillo Civic Club No. 26, which held a linguica breakfast May 1 in the group’s honor.
