Immigration forum planned Saturday

By From page A9 | December 04, 2013

Congregation Bet Haverim will host a community forum on immigration issues Saturday as a part of its Human Rights Shabbat program.

CBH periodically highlights an issue of public concern during a daylong Saturday observance that includes a discussion at the Shabbat religious service, lunch and a panel discussion in the afternoon. The public is welcome; lunch is free.

Congregation Bet Haverim is at 1715 Anderson Road in Davis.

Rabbi Mike Rothbaum will discuss migration — emigration and immigration — in the Jewish tradition during the Shabbat service at 10 a.m. The 1 p.m. panel discussion will include longtime Davis activists Desmond Jolly and Don Villarejo; Jack Chin, a UC Davis law professor; and Amagda Perez, director of the UCD Law School’s immigration clinical program; examining the parameters of the current debates over immigration policy, political and legal trends, and opportunities for action.

Walt Sherwood, a board member of Yolo Immigration Network, will moderate.
