By From page A3 | May 12, 2013

Law-enforcement dignitaries from Yolo County and beyond gathered in front of the historic Woodland courthouse Saturday for the unveiling and dedication of the Yolo County Fallen Officer Memorial. Inspired by the Yolo County Retired Peace Officers Association, the memorial pays tribute to the 11 Yolo County law-enforcement officers who lost their lives in the line of duty between 1912 and 2008. The association fundraised for more than five years to cover the memorial’s $21,000 cost. Honorees include Davis Police Officer Douglas Cantrill, Winters City Marshal William P. Rice, Deputy Sheriffs Walter J. Leinberger and Jose Antonio “Tony” Diaz, Woodland Police Officer Laurence Sills, West Sacramento Police Officer James McKnight, and California Highway Patrolmen Ivan Casselman, Roy Blecher, William Freeman, Gary Wagers and Andy Stevens. One of several speakers at the event was Yolo County Sheriff Ed Prieto.
