Indian dinner raises funds for suicide prevention

By From page A12 | February 19, 2013

Suicide Prevention and Crisis Services of Yolo County will host “Giving from the Heart,” an Indian dinner prepared by local chef Mary Phillip. She was born and raised in India and has been preparing her dinners for nonprofit organizations for more than a decade.

The dinner is from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday at St. Martin’s Church, 640 Hawthorn Lane in Davis. Tickets are $20 for adults and $5 for children 12 and younger. Alcoholic and nonalcoholic drinks will be available for purchase.

All ticket sales will benefit SPYC’s 24-hour crisis lines. These crisis lines are a vital link for those who do not have basic resources, need referrals to low-cost counseling services, are struggling with emotional difficulties, or are in active crisis and require immediate aid, a news release said.

SPYC’s crisis lines are staffed by more than 40 trained volunteer crisis counselors who provide a kind and safe listening atmosphere.

Tickets may be purchased online at the SPYC website, suicidepreventionyolocounty.org, or by calling the business office at 530-756-7542.
