Inventors, craft makers, bikers, dancers and jazz musicians will celebrate innovation and upcycling at the Square Tomatoes Crafts Fair on Sunday in Central Park. The fair will display entries to the Invention and Upcycling Contest, including art bicycles, restyled clothes, bamboo jewelry and wine-barrel furniture.
The fair will run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday in Central Park, Third and C streets.
Visitors will vote and the fair will award two prizes: one for design and one for practicality. Several local stores — Hibbert Lumber, Bohème Hip Used Clothing, the SPCA Thrift Store and Aggie Reuse — have joined Square Tomatoes and Cool Davis in sponsoring the contest.
Practicality is a big part of Sunday’s fair. Cool Davis and Square Tomatoes collaborated on a handout that lists ways to stretch dollars and save resources. The handout explains, among other things, how to rescue faded chairs, outdoor umbrellas, sofas, and soiled pillows; how to make a 35-cent substitute for Miracle-Gro; and how to save water for plants.
Fairgoers will enjoy music by the New Harmony Jazz Band. For more information, visit SquareTomatoesCrafts.com.
