CommuniCare Health Centers has received a $150,000 grant from Kaiser Permanente’s Northern California Community Benefit Program to support construction of CommuniCare’s new health center facility in Woodland.

The new 21,010-square-foot health center will provide a modern and comfortable health home for low-income, culturally diverse patients in Woodland and the surrounding rural areas, and eventually serve 25 percent more patients than CommuniCare now sees in Woodland.

“Kaiser Permanente has been a valued partner of CommuniCare for many years, and it has provided support for many of our programs and projects in helping us to grow and better meet the needs of our patients and the community,” said Robin Affrime, chief executive officer of CommuniCare.

“We are grateful to Kaiser for their gift and for their leadership in recognizing that this significant contribution will benefit not only the community of Woodland, but every patient we see throughout Yolo County.”

Kaiser Permanente’s community involvement pairs grant funding with 65 years of clinical expertise, medical research and volunteerism to support prevention-focused, evidence-based programs that are expanding access to care and creating healthy environments.

The grant for the new health center is the latest of several grants that Kaiser has made to CommuniCare in recent years. Funding from Kaiser also provided CommuniCare with support to increase access to patient-centered care for unstable, severely mentally ill patients; expand health coverage enrollment services and pediatric immunization outreach; and increase patient access to specialty care, among other projects.

Targeted to open in January 2014, CommuniCare’s new facility in Woodland will be named the Hansen Family Health Center after Dr. Bob and Suzanne Hansen, longtime Woodland residents and supporters of CommuniCare.

The new Hansen Family Health Center will provide 45 percent more space than CommuniCare’s current clinic facilities in Woodland, increasing the number of CommuniCare’s exam rooms, doubling the number of dental operatories, and providing additional counseling rooms, along with expanding capacity for an array of health education and patient support services.

CommuniCare offers comprehensive primary medical and dental services, perinatal services, behavioral health services, substance abuse treatment, health education and outreach services to the culturally diverse, low-income, uninsured and underinsured residents of the Yolo County area, including migrant and seasonal farm workers and their families.

CommuniCare’s services are offered through clinic sites in Davis, Woodland, West Sacramento and Esparto.
