A half-day workshop at the Davis Art Center is designed to teach kids the basics of software programming, game design and an introduction to robotics. It will run from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, June 29, at the Art Center, 1919 F St.
Kids ages 8-14 will learn how to program games with Scratch, a child-friendly computer language developed at MIT. After learning Scratch, the class moves on to exploring robotics, first with a “robot petting zoo” — exploring multiple types of robot systems — and then writing simple programs to control robot movement, sensors and lights.
This camp is geared toward those with no programming skills or experience. Younger children can be included with the instructor’s permission.
The instructors are Jessie Chabot Valdes and Ray Valdes.
The fee is $60; all materials, including computers, will be supplied.
