Two murals created by local children at last year’s Cool Davis Festival are on exhibit at Davis City Hall to promote this year’s event, which takes place Saturday, Oct. 12, in Central Park.
The murals are themed “Protect Our Bugs” and “Kids Want to Know What is in Our Food,” created with assistance from the Parent Institute for Infant Brain Development and the Yes on Your Right to Know What Is In Your Food Group. Nearly 100 children spent six hours on the projects, which involved pouring and glueing seeds onto wooden canvases.
Artist Ann Wood created and sketched the designs onto the canvases. Rodney Robinson and his brother built the frames. Mashood Danmole, a new Davis resident, took photographs. Elizabeth Ramirez-Lozover and Monica Vega, UC Davis interns, engaged and assisted the children in their artistic expressions. Diane Evans, child advocate and mental health specialist, helped organize the event.
The murals will be on exhibit in August and September at City Hall, 23 Russell Blvd., and in October and November at the Veterans’ Memorial Center, 203 E. 14th St.
