Cshamiya Deary, a student at King High School, also was honored last month by the Sunrise Rotary Club of Davis as a Student of the Month.

Nominated by the King High staff, Deary “is the clearest model of determination possible,” the staff wrote. “Her picture is right there next to the word ‘determination’ in the dictionary.

“Cshamiya wants to be the first person in her family to go to college. She does not know yet exactly what she wants to study, but she knows she wants to get there, and nothing is going to stop her. She not only helps a great deal taking care of her three younger siblings, but she intentionally models for them how to work hard, how to do right and how to succeed,” the nomination continued.

“Being the first to graduate from college will be the ultimate model for her brothers and sisters to follow. Her first step is graduating from high school, and she is well on her way to clearing that first hurdle. She’s not just on time every day to school, she comes early. She doesn’t just do all her lessons every day, she gives them all she’s got.”
