Scientist and watercolorist Alexander Kozik, from the former Soviet Union, studied at St. Petersburg University, Russia, and is now a bioinformatics specialist at the UC Davis Genome Center. His primary duties are data visualization in genomics.
Ten years ago, he started an artistic interpretation of biological data in colors and shapes. He developed numerous computer programs to transform dry numbers into unique, attractive, colorful graphs and forms.
“I want to show scientists and others the beauty in the world of numerical data and DNA sequences,” he said.
In parallel, Kozik works on paintings expressing dreams and fantasies. His artwork in watercolor and biology cannot be separated in this creative way of thinking.
His series “Colors” will be part of the Second Friday ArtAbout, from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday at the Ray Johnston Photography Studio, 803 Second St., Suite 302, on the third floor of the Chen Building. For more information, call 530-756-0499.
