The fourth annual Vanderhoef lecture on international education will be delivered Thursday at International House, Davis. A reception will begin at 6:30 p.m., followed by the lecture at 7 p.m. by Mayor Joe Krovoza.
Following Krovoza’s talk, a panel discussion will take place featuring former Mayor Ruth Asmundson, who will talk about Davis’ sister cities. Thursday’s event is free and open to the public.
“We in Davis are keenly aware of the international students and scholars and other visitors who come to our town and UC Davis,” said Elisabeth Sherwin, I-House executive director. “A few years ago, we thought it would be helpful to have an annual lecture focusing on any of the myriad aspects of international education.
“Our first speaker was Chancellor Emeritus Larry Vanderhoef, followed by former Davis Mayor Ruth Asmundson, current Chancellor Linda Katehi and now current Davis Mayor Joe Krovoza.
“We also will look at some of the problems international students and scholars have living in Davis or coming to America for the first time. Unfortunately, they sometimes are easy victims,” Sherwin added.
