Lingering misconceptions about the CalFresh program, successor to food stamps, will be debunked at a meeting of the Woodland Senior Center Computer Club at 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 27. The center is at 2001 East St. in Woodland.
Kenn Valenzuela, a specialist in public assistance with the Yolo County Employment and Social Services Department, will be the presenter. He will discuss new qualification guides that make the program more accessible to those who may benefit from it.
“Many believe that if you are a homebuyer or a senior that you don’t qualify,” said Nancy Schou, a supervisor with the department. “Families, individuals and seniors may all qualify under the new rules. Seniors receiving CalFresh will not be taking benefits away from those who are needier and may still get Meals on Wheels, for instance.”
Valenzuela will distribute information sheets with details about how to register, and will take questions from the audience at the end of the presentation.
Membership in the Computer Club is not required to attend, although members will be eligible for a drawing at the end of the meeting during refreshments. The board of directors will meet at the close of the general meeting.
