Learn about cycling plan at Tuesday’s open house

By From page A8 | January 22, 2014

The Davis Bicycle Advisory Commission has been working in the past 18 months with Dave “DK” Kemp, the city’s active transportation coordinator, and other city staff to develop a plan to reach the new diamond certification.

The city will sponsor an open house to show off the draft plan to the public at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at the U.S. Bicycling Hall of Fame, 303 Third St. Community members are invited to ask questions and share their ideas. A draft copy of the plan is available online at bicycles.cityofdavis.org/beyond-platinum-plan-draft.

It is more than pride that is pushing Davis to do better with bicycles, Kemp said. The impetus to get the diamond certification is part of the city’s overarching set of goals, specifically its will to reduce its carbon footprint and promote a sustainable city.
