Learn to compose better paintings in acrylics class

By From page A4 | February 29, 2012

Join Lynne Cunningham as she experiments with acrylic paints in a class from 3 to 6 p.m. Fridays, March 2 and 9, at the Davis Senior Center, 646 A St.

Participants will be painting on gessoed watercolor paper while learning this flexible and spontaneous painting medium.

“Experience how exciting the potential is for your paintings,” a news release said.

Along with technique, students will explore design and composition in paintings through discussion, definition and in-class exercises.

The full range of water-based acrylics will be demonstrated, using it in thick techniques like oil, or watercolor-like washes and glazes. Students will learn painterly effects of atmosphere, texture, drama, spontaneity and the key to acrylics — blending edges. Technique is emphasized, not acrylic mediums or additives.

The cost is $80 for both sessions. To register, call the Davis Senior Center at (530) 757-5696.

Note: To take the class, students already must know how to mix colors and/or use a color wheel. The class is open to interested artists, ages 18 and up, and is best for painters with some experience.
