Lincoln expert to speak at Davis church

By From page A3 | June 19, 2013

Abraham Lincoln’s words are considered by many to be timeless — still relevant and on point 150 years later.

Lincoln scholar and author Ronald C. White Jr. will speak three times in Davis, exploring Lincoln’s message for our times in a talk titled “Abraham Lincoln, 2013: Wisdom for Today.”

White will speak at 9 and 10:30 a.m. services on Sunday, June 30, at the Davis Community Church, 412 C St., followed by a 3:30 p.m. lecture in the DCC Fellowship Hall, 421 D St. Admission is free.

His morning talks will focus on “Lincoln’s Sermon on the Mount,” his second inaugural address and the subject of White’s 2002 book, “Lincoln’s Greatest Speech: The Second Inaugural.”

White has written three books on Lincoln, including a biography that is considered one of the most authoritative accounts of the 16th president’s life. He has lectured at the White House and has been interviewed on the PBS News Hour.
