Local residents are invited to make a “fabulous fleece hat” at a class next month at the Davis Art Center. Jill Bowlus and Diana Taylor are the instructors.
The no-sew class will run from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, at the Art Center, 1919 F St.
Participants will apply a modern twist to the ancient craft of felt making using the “felting on a ball” technique as they design decorations for a cozy hat that is unlike anything they could find in a store.
Using colorful, hand-dyed wool fibers and warm, soapy water, students will learn to create multi-colored sculptural elements to craft a design that is fun to wear and distinctly unique to their own personality.
All decorating materials will be supplied, and hot tea and homemade cookies and scones will be served during class.
Students should bring their own fleece hat or pre-order one hand-made especially for this class for $10. To pre-order, register by Feb. 3 and specify a color choice — black, cream, gray, brown or blue.
The class cost $35, which includes all materials. Extra felting kits and various colors of hand-dyed wool also will be for sale.
Sign up at the Art Center, 1919 F St., or online at davisartcenter.org.
