Visitors to Lake Solano Park in Winters on Saturday will have the opportunity to meet Smokey Bear, the United States Forest Service mascot.
At the 10 a.m. event, park volunteer Barbara Cooper will talk about the history of Smokey Bear and representatives from the Vacaville Fire Department will discuss the tools and equipment they use to battle fires. Everyone is then invited to celebrate and meet Smokey Bear for his birthday.
This program will take place on the grassy area next to the Lake Solano Park Nature Center at 8685 Pleasants Valley Road, Winters. The presentation is free, but parking costs $5 per vehicle, payable across the road at the entrance to the day use area.
No RSVP is necessary. For more information before the day of the event, call (707) 432-0150, ext. 200, or email [email protected]. For same-day information, call (530) 795-2990.
Guests also may camp at Lake Solano. Tent and RV campsites are rented on a first-come, first-served basis. Looking for an adventure? Rent a canoe or kayak at the nature center and explore the park from the water — “it is a great way to cool off on a hot day and gives one a whole new perspective,” a news release said.
