The Bohart Museum of Entomology is planning a special open house, “Meet the Beetles,” from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday. The museum is in 1124 Academic Surge on the UC Davis campus. It is home to more than 7 million insect specimens, plus a live “petting zoo” that includes Madagascar hissing cockroaches and walking sticks.
To accommodate families and other area residents who are unable to attend the regular visiting hours, Mondays through Thursdays, the Bohart began offering special weekend hours last year.
The first weekend opening of the year was Jan. 23 and featured butterflies. Upcoming events including “The Ants Go Marching On,” 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, March 13; Picnic Day, all day Saturday, April 16; “Moth-ers Day,” featuring moths, from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 7; and “June Bugs” from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, June 5.
The museum’s regular hours are 8:30 a.m. to noon and 1 to 5 p.m., Mondays through Thursdays. It is closed Fridays and major holidays. Admission is free.
