Classic and original Americana folk music from Misner & Smith plus an eclectic mix of folk and jazz from the Souterrain will be featured at Thursday Live! at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Davis Odd Fellows Hall, 415 Second St.
Misner & Smith — Megan Smith on the upright bass and mandolin; Sam Misner on guitar — offer a refreshing take on contemporary folk music. Their harmonies fit within classic American traditions, and their songwriting and storytelling transport the listener to a world of their creation.
The duo retain a connection to roots music that has been described as “the perfect balance between traditional and contemporary.”
While all members of the Souterrain have lived and worked in Davis, the “local” tag does their unique, eclectic sound a disservice. Drawing from experience in choral, jazz and traditional Irish music, songwriter and vocalist Lauren Norton has developed a style with a following both at home and abroad — where she has toured with the likes of Cuckoo Savante, the Good Time Maritimes and Imelda May.
Norton will be backed up by the Souterrain, a quartet of familiar faces on the Davis music scene. Preview copies of their first studio album, “What Ails You,” will be available to purchase at the show.
Thursday Live! is sponsored each month by the Davis Odd Fellows Music Committee with help from KDRT. The concerts are on the first Thursday of every month at the Davis Odd Fellow Hall. All shows are free and open to all ages.
