Mom, children injured in Woodland crash

By February 17, 2011

Two young children were among the injured in a head-on collision Wednesday morning west of Woodland, the California Highway Patrol announced Thursday.

The crash occurred at about 8:15 a.m. on County Road 24 at Woodbridge Drive, where 42-year-old Michael Hiersman of Woodland attempted to make a left turn and struck an oncoming vehicle head-on, Officer Cindy Leal said.

A mother and her two children, a boy and girl both age 9, were injured in the second vehicle. Madison resident Cande Reed, 37, and the children were taken by a relative to Woodland Memorial Hospital with injuries including abrasions and complaints of pain, Leal said

Hiersman also complained of pain and blurred vision but refused medical aid, Leal said. The crash remains under investigation.
