More for families at expanded Hyatt Place

By From page A6 | June 25, 2014

On the edge of downtown, along the south side of UC Davis campus, is one of our favorite family staycation destinations, the Hyatt Place. With an expansion that was completed on April 1, there is even more that appeals to families in pursuit of some local regeneration and play time.

Included in the 52 new guest rooms are four suites that provide some great benefits. Mom and Dad get a king-size bed in a separate bedroom, and the kids can stretch out on a comfortable queen-size pull-out sofa bed in the living room. Add to that, three flat-screen televisions (there is even one above the dining table) so both parents and kids can watch their favorite movie, and a kitchen with full-size fridge and convection/microwave oven.

If a suite isn’t your style, the double queen-bed rooms all have a fridge and every room in the hotel has a connection board that allows you to hook up any sort of electronic device to the room’s flat-screen television.

Other big benefits we love that remain at Hyatt Place include a great pool for kids, a diverse breakfast buffet included in the room rate and a 24-hour menu with plenty that kids will love. While there is no room service, you can call down and order your meal, then have the front desk call you when it is ready (rather than having to hover and wait in the eatery).
More great news for families about Hyatt Place becoming the largest Davis hotel, now at 127 rooms: With more rooms to fill, the hotel is offering more discounted rates than before. For the first time, you can nab one of the discounted rooms available through websites like Expedia, Travelocity and Hotwire.

There is more availability of special rates on the weekends in the summer, and this year during the Fourth of July week, families will find very low rates.
