The volunteers at the Hattie Weber Museum are celebrating Director Emeritus Jim Becket’s 85th birthday on Saturday, Feb. 1, from 4 to 6 p.m.
Becket is a longtime Davis resident with an extensive history of community service. The Davis Chamber of Commerce recognized him for his work in a school-work program he created and administered. In 2010, he was honored as Davis’ Citizen for the Year for his many contributions, including the revitalization of the museum. More recently, he has been planning and leading history-themed tours of the Davis area for fellow residents at Atria Covell Gardens.
While Becket is still active in Kiwanis and the United Methodist Church in Woodland, his current favorite role is “Grampa.”
Friends and well-wishers are cordially invited to the museum at 445 C St. There will be wine, cake and other refreshments, including Becket’s favorite, lemon meringue pie.
The Putah Creek Crawdads will play from 4:30 to 5 p.m. and the museum’s recently acquired and tuned Schmeiser family piano will be available for talented guests.
No gifts, please. Cards and contributions to the museum annex fund would be much appreciated.
