Explorit: Summer camp a success thanks to volunteers

Another wonderful year of Summer Science Camp has come to a close, and Explorit Science Center wishes to thank all the volunteers who helped make it possible. From experts who gave special presentations to our campers to those who prepared the snacks that kept us fueled all day, we couldn’t have done it without you.

Special thanks goes to Ron DuPratt and Ron DuPratt Ford for bringing a hybrid car to our Energy Camps. Students studying what makes things go got a chance to check out up and coming automotive technology first-hand, then compare the hybrid to a more traditional engine.

We also owe a special thank you to Stephanie Long, who dropped by our Goo-ologist Camps to dissect a sheep brain to show our students what’s going on inside their own heads. Students got to assist with the dissection and see what real brain tissue feels like while discovering how our brains interpret sensory experiences.

Old City Kites kindly dropped by our afternoon camp and took students to the park for a kite demonstration and physics lesson. Our campers even made and tested their own kites. Thanks for sharing the science and love of kites with our kids!

But the most indispensable part of camp are always our summer teaching assistants. These volunteers assist our staff educators in the classroom by prepping and cleaning up activities, preparing, serving and cleaning up snack, and engaging with the students to enrich their camp experience.

So our most special thanks goes to each one of them: Wesley Aptekar-Cassels, Seth Baird, Vikram Balaji, Jennifer Blanc, Joanne Brown, Nicholas Cheng, Delaney Coleman, Alejandra Cortes, Jaylen Dewitt, Kyla Dodsworth, Michael Embree, Matthew Engelken, Nathan Feldman, Ellen Finn, Philip Glazer, Marco Gomez, Vanessa Guerrero, Gabe Gutierrez, Murtaza Khan, Brandon Lin, Aidan Mager, Liam Mayr, Fiona McNerney, Katherine Murdoch, Erin Murphy, Reem Omer, Ali Osgood, Randy Ouyang, Sam Palchik, James Pedroarena, Logan Permenter, Atlanti Pitsillides, Samantha Poeppelman, Shari Ranasinghe, Sylvan Ransom, Mackenna Ratliff, Emaan Riaz, Nicholas Roy, Jack Steindorf, Robby Tabor, Rachel Ulanowski, Natalya Usachenko, Morgan Van Acker, Tess Van Schoor, Ashley Wang and Jeffrey Zhang.

Summer Science Camp could not have been such a success without all of your help!
