By From page A5 | February 26, 2014

Cool Davis invites the community to submit nominations for the 2014 Eco-Hero Awards for individuals and Climate Solution Awards for business, nonprofit organizations and groups.

For both awards, the nominees must exhibit exemplary actions or achievements in reducing greenhouse gas emissions (carbon footprint) in the areas of:

* Transportation — helping the community shift to non-fossil fuel vehicles and modes;

* Consumption — reducing consumption and waste related to food, water, goods, and services; and

* Built energy — increasing efficiency of energy use in homes and commercial buildings.

Other criteria include creating innovative solutions to real-life problems that can be replicated by others, and showing a commitment to an ongoing, long-term effort.

The awards will be presented Sunday, April 27, during an Earth Day celebration, “Call of the Wolf,” featuring music, song, dance and storytelling. A reception will follow. The event will take place at the Veterans’ Memorial Theater, 203 E. 14th St. in Davis.
