Lots of dogs and cats are waiting to be adopted at the Yolo County Animal Shelter, 2640 E. Gibson Road in Woodland. Among them is Hugo (No. 82321), a 16-month-old neutered male border collie mix, who is described as “very gentle.” Hugo pulls sometimes, but leashes easily, a shelter spokeswoman says. Also hoping for a good home is Smoky (No. 96448), a female domestic short-haired cat. Fees are charged for licensing and spaying or neutering, if necessary. The shelter is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays (closed for lunch from 1 to 2 p.m. each day). For more information on how to adopt a pet, call (530) 668-5287 or visit http://www.petfinder.com/shelters/CA283html (click on “our pet list is updated on an almost daily basis”).
