Plant sale Saturday benefits Friends of the Arboretum

By From page A3 | April 04, 2013

Saturday’s Friends of the Arboretum plant sale will feature 30 “durable delights,” plants that demand little of our time but give a big return in form, color, flower and durability. Shoppers also will find the area’s largest selection of attractive, low-water, easy-care, region-appropriate plants, including Arboretum All-Stars.

The sale runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the UC Davis Arboretum Teaching Nursery on Garrod Drive, across from the School of Veterinary Medicine.

Not a member? No problem! Anyone is welcome to join at the door. New members receive a free plant coupon (good up to $10). All members receive 10 percent off their plant sale purchases. For more information on the additional benefits and cost of membership, visit http://arboretum.ucdavis.edu/join_the_friends.aspx.

A special feature of Saturday’s sale is a campaign to collect used spades, trowels and shovels of all kinds for a campus/city sculpture project. Artist Christopher Fennell will take the donated goods and transform them into a gateway arch to be built behind the Davis Commons shopping center at the east end of the Arboretum.
